Is there a military service commitment associated with the Corps of Cadets or License Option programs?

There is no military service commitment associated with participation in the Corps of Cadets or any of the License Option programs. Service opportunities are offered in the Navy ROTC unit within the Corps of Cadets.

What is a License Option Program?

In addition to a traditional bachelor's or master's degree, cadets who participate in a License Option program train and test for a civilian merchant marine license issued by the US Coast Guard. This credential allows a graduate to perform the duties of Unlimited Tonnage Third Mate or Unlimited Horsepower Third Assistant Engineer on board ships.

What is a Summer Sea Term?

Summer Sea Term is a training experience for license option cadets during the Summer term. Summer Sea Term is hosted on either the Texas A&M Maritime Academy’s training ship or on a commercial vessel as part of a cadet internship. These training voyages are typically 60-90 days in length.
